Plagiarism – flattery or stealing
It takes a long time for small businesses to work hard at promoting their services and climbing through the ranks of the millions to get in the search engines and “pop up” in the right places when your services are needed. Photo restoration is market saturated by people and businesses trying to do just that!
However there are many people and companies out there in the photo restoration business who think its ok to steal content and use it as their own. Its hard work setting up your business and adversing it, so its far easier to steal it content right? You wont get found out, the world wide web is a huge place. WRONG! its very simple to find out who is stealing your content. Here is example of the text from my front page, verified and checked and logged as being unchanged for several years by the waybackmachine and various other logging tools.
Copyscape.com helps small businesses with tracking these plagiarists here is the snapshot from my front page.
In this snapshot 7 out the 10 results had huge chunks of my home page text right there on their pages! The bold text in this examples shows just how much has been stolen.
Now i don’t normally name names I think competition is healthy but what you risk for stealing others content is your site being blocked by the search engines for using spam techniques. It can be seen as duplicate content and be seen as trying to cheat the search engines. its also possible to harm the ranking of the originating site and have them come after you for loss of earnings due to sliding the rankings. So if you want to be seen as a number one small business don’t use dirty tricks, you get found out and run the risk of being out of pocket. Use original content and your own words and you will find you get much better results.
